The 30-year-old opposite hitter made a decision not to play for Canadian Men’s National Team anymore.

Already after the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, it was pretty much clear that Schmitt will make this move since he stated that it has been an honor to play for Canada but did not definitely say goodbye to the national team.

“The first step is to try and get healthy and honor my contract with my pro club in Poland. It’s no secret that I have battled injuries over the past few years, and I would really like get over the ones that ailed me all summer and get through this season. I love playing for Canada and love playing with the guys; it’s going to be a big change and I’m sure not an easy one by any means. While I won’t be playing with the team anymore I still hope to be around at events to support and help grow the sport,” said Schmitt, who will play with Asseco Resovia Rzeszów in 2016/2017.

Before becoming professional player, he performed for University of Saskatchewan and Red Deer College. Afterwards, Schmitt has played professionally in Greece, France, South Korea (three championship titles), Russia, Turkey (one championship title), Brazil and finally in Poland. With Canadian NT, whose member he has been for 10 years, he took three silver and three bronze medals at major tournaments and won few MVP and Best Scorer individual awards.

He has had surgeries on both legs (in 2013 and 2016) for fractures and other issues.

@dee jae69 It is normal. In last 5 years he always had problems with the injuries and it is good way to save some energy for the rest of the career
