Lebedew has already been a member of ’Volleyroos’ staff, but only as an assistant coach – at the Sydney 2000 Olympics – while he previously spent five years coaching in the AIS (Australian International School) Volleyball Program from 1997 to 2002. He will replace Italian Roberto Santilli, who did not renew his contract with Volleyball Australia.

“I was attracted to the chance to lead my home country to the success I have always dreamed, and to give back to Australian volleyball which has provided me with so many opportunities in my life,” Lebedew said.

He has spent the past 15 years as coach and assistant coach in some of the strongest leagues in the world, including Poland, Germany and Italy.

Lebedew is currently engaged with Polish PlusLiga team Jastrzębski Węgiel and will continue in his role, returning to Australia during the international season to take charge of the ‘Volleyroos’.
