“We have a very tight schedule but we simply can’t change this. We must go through this and try to achieve the best possible results” says Atom Trefl libero Mariola Zenik. “We want to fight and play our best in each game so our goals remain the same” she continues.
Apart from Dinamo Romprest BUCURESTI, Atom Trefl recently played Poland’s vice champions and CL participant Tauron MKS DABROWA GORNICZA, the bronze medallists from last year’s edition of the national league and winners of the 2013 CEV Volleyball Cup, Polski Cukier Muszynianka MUSZYNA, and Chemik POLICE, a team whose roster is packed with world-class players such as Malgorzata Glinka–Mogentale and Anna Werblinska to name only a few. This weekend SOPOT will play BKS Aluprof BIELSKO–BIALA for the fourth round of the national league sponsored by ORLEN. This will be the twelfth time they play each other with the record standing at 6 victories for SOPOT and five for their opponents from Silesia. Last year BIELSKO–BIALA had travelled to Sopot on a winning streak of three matches in the national league but this was broken by the Atomic girls who seized the night with a 3:1 victory.
“I think we have a little psychological advantage going into this game” says Anna Podolec. “We also beat them a few weeks ago at the international tournament held in Szamotuly, so I hope that we can prolong our winning streak and give our fans something to cheer about”.
On Tuesday BIELSKO–BIALA lost in straight sets to France’s ASPTT MULHOUSE in the first round of the 2014 CEV Volleyball Cup. However, in the national league it has performed quite strong with a tie-break victory over BeefMaster Budowlani LODZ, and another three points from their wins with Siodemka LEGIONOWO and Palac BYDGOSZCZ. Aluprof best players are Germany’s Heike Beier and Czech Helena Horka who have scored 52 and 50 points so far since the start of the season. Atom Trefl stars have much less on their account, as Kim Hill and Anna Podolec top the charts for the team with 28 and 22 respectively.
However, Trefl will be the first “tough” opponent for BIELSKO–BIALA in the national league and therefore things will be different than the stats may suggest. The setter of Aluprof, Dorota Wilk, will come back to Sopot after spending two seasons with the team.
