Juan Manuel Barrial has resigned as the head coach of Indykpol AZS Olsztyn following a string of poor performances in the PlusLiga. The Argentinian coach, who took the helm in June replacing his compatriot Javier Weber, leaves the team languishing at 14th place out of 16, with only one win in six matches. Former player and long-time assistant coach Marcin Mierzejewski has stepped in as interim coach.
The club is actively seeking a new head coach, with speculation mounting around potential candidates. Emanuele Zanini, the current coach of Belgium’s national team is reportedly a frontrunner. Another name in the mix is Igor Juricić, who leads Croatia’s national team and previously managed Trefl Gdańsk until the end of last season.
With three teams set for relegation at season’s end, the pressure is on Indykpol AZS Olsztyn to reverse their fortunes quickly. Barrial’s departure marks the first coaching change in the PlusLiga this season, highlighting the high stakes and intense competition within the league.
