An experienced Serbian setter Maja Ognjenović will not play for the Russian Women’s Volleyball Championship winners Dinamo Moscow next season after all.

Despite the fact that Serbia national team captain Ognjenović extended the deal with Russian champions Dinamo Moscow, the things have gone in an opposite direction, the club General Director Vladimir Zinichev stated for RIA Novosti.

“It was very unexpected for us that Ognjenović, who has signed a contract with Dinamo for the next season, suddenly decided to cancel it and wants to play in another club. There were long negotiations with her, with her agent. They were both interested in Maja’s moving to VakıfBank. When we learned this and settled for it, Dinamo directly contacted the leadership of VakıfBank. After discussing with them all the details, we found a solution. If a player doesn’t want to play for one club but wants to play in another club, then there’s no point in forcing him,” Zinichev.

He added that Dinamo will now have to quickly find another setter in the market, which is opened until the end of August, as Marina Babeshina is the only player on this position in the team at the moment.

Zinichev summed up transfer activities of Dinamo Moscow so far. He said that Aleksandr Sukomel will remain the head coach for the next season. He was an acting coach after replacing Yuriy Cherednik in October 2018. The middle blocker Yana Manzyuk arrived from Enisey Krasnoyarsk, while outside hitter Viktoriya Rusakova (ex-Chaplina) came from Dinamo Krasnodar. Dinamo Moscow prolonged the deals with the Czech outside hitter Helena Havelková and star player Nataliya Goncharova for one more season.
