The 9th-seed Yugra-Samotlor were close to tying the series of the Preliminary Round of the 2020/21 Russian Men’s Superliga Parimatch playoffs against no.4 Zenit Saint Petersburg. The Nizhnevartovsk club squandered a 2-set surplus, failing to take advantage of the exhaustion of the rivals who played the rematch of the CEV Cup final, three days ago.
With 25 points (including 4 blocks), Egor Kliuka led the Saint Petersburg side to a turnaround and a progression to the Final Six.
The reigning champions and also no.6 Lokomotiv defeated the 7th-seed Ural in a dramatic five-setter that lasted for 2 hours and 19 minutes and advanced to the final tournament. The most productive player of the second match was Serbian Dražen Luburić, the opposite hitter of the Novosibirsk club.
Thanks to 24 points of Maksim Mikhaylov, the 3rd-seed Zenit-Kazan beat no.10 Enisey in Game 2 in straight sets and secured a place in the Final Six.
No.8 ASK swept 5th-seed Fakel in the second match and tied the series at 1-1. Ukrainian Dmytro Viietskyi top-scored the winning side with 14 points.
