RUS M: Lokomotiv adds a new chapter to club’s history

Lokomotiv's coaches and players have helped give Russian volleyball plenty to cheer already in 2013.

European champions Lokomotiv Novosibirsk has enjoyed success as a team and individuals are now they are ready to try and add a new chapter in the club’s history with glory at the FIVB Men’s Club World Championship.

The club is no stranger to winning trophies having triumphed in the CEV Champions League already in 2013, success that booked their place at the Club World Championship.

At international level head coach Andrey Voronkov and his assistant Claudio Rifelli recently led the Russian men’s team to glory in the FIVB World League in their first major tournament since being handed the reins of the national team in March this year.

Lokomotiv players, opposite Ilya Zhilin and middle-blocker Artem Volvich, were key figures in the Russia team that won gold in Argentina and then added the CEV Men’s European Championship title in September.

At age-group level middle-blocker Artem Volvich and libero Valentin Golubev helped Russia win the 2013 Universiade 2013, while six Lokomotiv players were in the team that won the FIVB U21 World Championship in Turkey this year.

“Volleyball Club Lokomotiv-Novosibirsk is very proud to take part in the Club World Championship,” Voronkov said. “It will be the first time for us and we are happy to gain such valuable experience. Of course winning will be the best result for us.”
