Poletaev, who exploded on the court after Zenit Kazan loaned him to Kuzbass Kemerovo last season, suffered a knee injury twice in 2016/17. Firstly, he missed three Regular Season matches in December 2016 and January 2017, while he was unable to help Kuzbass in the playoffs for the same reason. The explanation of the doctors was that the player’s knee was simply tired of heavy landings since Poleteav is a 1.95m tall and jumps very high.
„I consulted with the specialists in Italy and Germany – they said that this can go away without surgery and recommended conservative treatment: rest and joint strengthening. Most importantly – they found a problem. It turns out that I have a slightly unusual anatomy of the foot and when I land all the load falls on the front part. A special insole was made for me in Italy, which will equally distribute the load. I already managed to get used to it,“ Poletaev said in an interview with „Business Online“.
A 22-year-old opposite could not say when will he be able to return to the court…
„Everything goes according to plan. The doctors say that I am even recovering faster than they thought. Soon I’ll start working in the gym to pump my legs because I didn’t jump for a long time. In terms of working with the balls I already began to train with the team and quickly remembered everything – I thought it would be more difficult.“
The „Business Online“ also spoke to the coaching staff of Kuzbass and they said they will not risk with returning Poletaev to the court. He will probably be ready for the start of the season in Superliga (September 10) but will be sidelined as a preventive measure.
