A departure of a setter Ekaterina Pankova from Dinamo Moscow caused a lot of commotion between her father Vadim Pankov and the officials of the Russian Women’s Volleyball titleholders.

Vadim Pankov, the father of Ekaterina, brought her to the club that he coaches Zarechie Odintsovo after she was “squeezed out of Dinamo Moscow roster” as he said among other things.

These words made director general of Dinamo, Vladimir Zinichev, very angry…

“Pankov said that we squeezed Katya out of the squad for another setter. As a coach, Pankov should know that, in sports, it is not the one who has a dad as the head coach of some club who is on the court but the one who is the best and leads the team to victory. The fact that Vera Vetrova left the court in the final matches in Kazan last season gave us the opportunity to become the champions of Russia. This is not an attack against Katya (Ekaterina Pankova), it’s the answer to Vadim Pankov’s words,” said Zinichev.

“Before Katya and I found a solution, Vadim Pankov came to the club demanding a substantial compensation. For what? Because, thanks to Katya, we became two-time champions of Russia? I repeat – no one drove Katya away from the club. Because Zoran Terzić (the coach of Dinamo) did not release her to the court in two games, does not mean that Dinamo squeezed her out,” the director general of Dinamo emphasized.

Ekaterina Pankova was in the protocol for Dinamo Moscow in Superliga matches but did not get a chance to play as the Serbian coach Terzić decided that Vera Vetrova and Marina Babeshina were better choices on a setter position.
