In their second appearance at the 2019 South American Championship, Argentina defeated Ecuador by 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-12) mostly thanks to Jan Martínez who scored 16 points, including 5 of his team’s 14 aces. With two victories in straight sets so far, the team led by Marcelo Méndez will close the preliminary stage against Brazil in the face-off for the top spot in Pool A. The “Seleção“ swept Colombia by a 3-0 and have a perfect score after two matches as well.
In Pool B, the hosts Chile have two wins in as many matches after prevailing over Peru in straight sets, partially 25-14, 25-17, 25-13. Chile’s opposite hitter Tomás Parraguirre scored game-high 22 points. Venezuela noted their first victory in the tournament and will battle Chile for the No.1 in the pool in the last round. Luis Antonio Arias and Emerson Rodríguez scored with 14 points apiece for the winning side.
