The defending champions VakıfBank had to work hard to prevail over Aydın Büyükşehir Belediyesi in the opening round of the 2019/20 Vestel Venus Sultanlar Ligi regular season: 3-1 (25-18, 25-18, 23-25, 25-15). It was obvious that Vakif head coach Guidetti will need a bit more time to embed so many newcomers into the team, no matter of the fact that they are all big names and proven players. However, one of these newcomers shone on her debut. The Swedish opposite hitter Isabell Haak (last season in Savino Del Bene Scandicci, Italy) chipped in 30 points. Serbian Milena Rašić made 5 kill blocks. The silver medalist with Turkey National Team at the 2019 EuroVolley, Meryem Boz (last season in Galatasaray HDI Sigorta), scored 20 points for the losing side.

Eczacıbaşı VitrA, who won the national Super Cup a few days ago, ran over Beylikdüzü Voleybol İhtisas on the road, leaving rivals at only 5 points in the third set: 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-5)! The vice-champions recorded the victory even without stars like Bošković, Kim and Natália. The Brazilian expert Marco Aurélio Motta decided to give the chance to players who will mostly serve as backups in the season. The middle blocker Beyza Arıcı embraced the chance and top-scored for Eczacıbaşı with 12 points, while Yasemin Güveli made 5 kill blocks. Beylikdüzü head coach Ali Kamberoğlu had only 9 players at the disposal for the match.

The two players that fought each other in the recent EuroVolley finals united their strengths to give Fenerbahçe Opet a 3-2 win over Türk Hava Yolları (Turkish Airlines) – Serbian Brankica Mihajlović (27 points) and Eda Erdem Dündar (5 kill blocks). The Czech Aneta Havlíčková put down 19 points for THY.
