In a major announcement made today, Turkish volleyball powerhouse, Halkbank Ankara, confirmed the appointment of Slobodan Kovac as their new head coach. This marks Kovac’s return to the team after his previous stint during the 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 seasons.
Kovac, a name that carries weight in Turkish volleyball, initially joined Halkbank Ankara in January 2017, taking over from Italian coach Camilo Placi. He made an immediate impact, leading the team to the Turkish championship in both seasons of his tenure. Notably, the 2017/2018 season saw Kovac spearhead the team’s victory in the Turkish Cup 2018, adding another feather to his cap.
A signing ceremony was held at Halkbank Sports Club, where Kovac penned the contract in the presence of Ergin Kaya, the Deputy General Manager and Vice President of the Club.
