CL M: Halkbank neutralize Ngapeth, Sokolov & Co. demolish Modena!

Halkbank demolished ‘Yellow guys’ 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-13) and now need to win only two sets in the second leg to qualify for the next round.

Halkbank made the key gap in the first set on serves from Kévin Le Roux at 12-11. The French middle blocker totally disturbed Modena’s defense (5 aces overall) disabling Bruno Rezende to properly organize his team’s attacks (15-11). Modena managed to temporarily return (18-18), but with several 3-meter kills, Tsvetan Sokolov finished what Le Roux started – 25-20. It is worth mentioning that Modena suffered a few bad calls from referees in this set including the one on a set ball which clearly went out of bounds without touching their block.

In Set 2, the two teams were leveled until the first TTO when Le Roux continued to bomb opponents from service line while Dick Kooy joined Sokolov in Halkbank‘s offense 21-18. Home team cut off Earvin Ngapeth (38% of excellent attacks overall) which was more than half of work towards final win (25-21).

Set 3 was complete demonstration of force by Halkbank’s players. At one point it was 21-9! Nothing more need to be said (25-13).

Sokolov topped Halkbank’s scorers with 17 points and 71% of excellent attacks. Luca Vettori scored 10 in Modena.
