In the 3rd Round of the Champions League Qualifications, the Turkish giants VakıfBank survived the scare in the opening set (trailed 8-2) and in the third set (29-27) against the Belarusian side Minchanka Minsk to start their title defense campaign successfully. Zhu Ting topped the winning team with 18 points while Nadzeya Smirnova made 10 points for Minchanka.
Maritza Plovdiv from Bulgaria nearly upset the Russian side Enisey Krasnoyarsk at home. Enisey managed to make the comeback after being two sets down mostly thanks to 22 points from Mariya Frolova and 5 kill blocks from Ekaterina Efimova. In Maritza, Nasya Dimitrova and Kremena Kamenova tallied 21 points each.
The runners-up from 2017, Imoco Volley Conegliano, easily downed the home side of Sliedrecht Sport of The Netherlands by a 3-0. Anna Nicoletti stood out as in an Italian club with 12 points.
Slovenian representatives Nova KBM Branik Maribor gave a hard time to the favorites from Poland, Developres SkyRes Rzeszów, but succumbed in four sets, despite the fact their youngster Iza Mlakar notched the game-high 31 points. The Serbian international Jelena Blagojević scored 22 points on the other side while Monika Ptak and Magdalena Hawryła made 4 kill blocks apiece.
