Laura Dijkema Retires from International Play
After 14 years in orange, Laura Dijkema announced her retirement from the Dutch women’s national volleyball team. The 35-year-old setter, beloved for her energy and leadership on the court, hangs up her international jersey with 443 matches to her name.
“It feels like the circle is complete,” Dijkema said, reflecting on her journey that began at the 2010 Montreux Masters against Cuba. What started as an unexpected call-up turned into a career full of highs — including a silver medal at the 2015 European Championship, bronze in 2023, and a historic fourth-place finish at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Over the years, she played for clubs across Germany, Turkey, Italy, Russia, and now continues her career in the U.S. with LOVB Omaha.
“She’s been the heart of this team,” said Nevobo’s technical director Heleen Crielaard. “On and off the court, Laura brought inspiration, passion, and leadership.”
