In an emotional gesture that’s touched hearts across Poland, Katarzyna Partyka, a 23-year-old player from Lotto Chemik Police, has decided to pause her career to donate bone marrow to her brother, Karol, who is battling acute myeloid leukemia.
The news quickly spread across social media and was also reported by Polish media outlets, including during Polsat SiatCast, where journalist Marek Magiera disclosed Partyka’s courageous decision. Her club also confirmed the information, expressing full support for their player.
“In May, my brother was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia,” Partyka explained. “After months of chemotherapy, it’s time for the final step — a bone marrow transplant. I’ve been tested and confirmed as a donor. Over the next few days, I’ll take medication to prepare for the donation that will help rebuild his blood system.”
Lotto Chemik Police stood firmly behind her choice.
“In moments like this, everything else fades away,” said club president Radosław Anioł. “We’re sending Kasia and Karol all our strength. The entire team supports you.”
Magiera also praised the young athlete during the show, saying,
“You’ve already won the most important medal, Kasia. We’re all cheering for you and your brother. Come back to the court soon — stronger than ever.”
