VakıfBank Sports Club, Turkey’s most internationally decorated team, recently held a press conference at VakıfBank Sports Palace, signaling the commencement of a promising new season. Present at this prestigious event were Abdi Serdar Üstünsalih, VakıfBank General Manager and Sports Club President, alongside team executives, coaching staff, and the players themselves.
Üstünsalih commented, “We’ve entered this season with a fresh outlook, as though we haven’t won anything before, but with the assurance that we can conquer any challenge.” The event, also attended by the entire team, provided a platform to introduce their new player transfer and to unveil VakıfBank’s latest jersey.
In his address, Üstünsalih praised the Turkish Women’s National A Team, celebrating their notable achievement. “They made history as the first team sport in Turkish history to clinch the European championship title.” he said.
Outlining the club’s ambitions, Üstünsalih stated, “With 12 trophies in our showcase, we stand tall as Turkey’s most internationally successful team. While proud of our history, we acknowledge that in sports, past achievements don’t guarantee future success. We approach the new season with eagerness and optimism.”
Banu Can Schürmann, VakıfBank General Manager, expressed her joy of rejoining the club, “After 23 years, I’m back with the world’s best team. This team is bursting with energy and potential.”
Giovanni Guidetti, the Head Coach, and Gabi, the team captain, emphasized the team’s values and shared their excitement for the forthcoming season. Other stars like Zehra Güneş and Ayça Aykaç also shared their aspirations and commitment to the team.
The 2023-2024 season is shaping up to be an exhilarating one for VakıfBank Sports Club. Their debut match is in the AXA Insurance Champions Cup against Fenerbahçe Opet on October 11th, followed by their Sultanlar League opener against Karayolları on October 14th.
