WC 2019 M: Brazil knock down Russia, León makes 80% attack as Poland down Argentina in 4 sets

Brazil National Team knocked down Russia by a 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-22) on Day 4 of the 2019 FIVB World Men’s Volleyball Cup in Japan and remained the only unbeaten side in the tournament.

Brazil remained invincible at the FIVB World Cup in Japan. The team coached by Renan Dal Zotto swept weakened Russia in Nagano and recorded the fourth victory in as many games, further isolating itself at the top of the table.

The “Zbornaya“, despite playing without stars like Mikhailov, Volkov, Butko, Poletaev, etc, had an initiative until the last moment of the second and the third set was unable to reject rivals who were led by Alan Souza (18 points, including 4 aces). Yaroslav Podlesnykh scored 13 for Russia who suffered the second straight defeat in the competition.

Russia’s head coach Tuomas Sammelvuo will not count on Anton Semyshev until the last few matches due to player’s back injury that he sustained yesterday.

The path of Argentina at the World Cup resembles Russia’s – two wins and then two defeats in a row. Poland downed South Americans by a 3-1 (27-29, 25-17, 25-18, 26-24) in Fukuoka to write down the third victory. Marcelo Méndez brought a young squad to the World Cup, without their best players - Conte and De Cecco.

The entrance of Wilfredo León instead of Artur Szalpuk in the second set changed the course of the match into the favor of Poland. The Cuban-born scored game-high 20 points through an 80.9% attack (17/21)! Agustín Loser tallied 17 points for Argentina.

Iran and Italy are also at 2-2 like Russia and Argentina but with their campaigns developing in a completely opposite direction.

The United States are the closest followers to Brazil in the charts with a 3-1.

Interestingly, the USA’s top scorer in the win against hosts Japan was Maxwell Holt and you will not often see that the middle blocker top-scored for one team at major world level tournaments. Holt set up 5 kill blocks and served 3 aces, adding 4 points from the attack.

Prior to the match, Thomas Jaeschke underwent the MRI for his shoulder injury to will determine the period during which he will be sidelined.

Egypt spoiled the impression a bit after losing their second successive match: 2-3 vs. Canada.

2019 FIVB World Men’s Volleyball Cup – Day 4:

Egypt – Canada 2-3 (25-27, 25-27, 25-16, 25-22, 9-15)

Poland – Argentina 3-1 (27-29, 25-17, 25-18, 26-24)

Brazil – Russia 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-22)

Tunisia – Italy 0-3 (19-25, 21-25, 18-25)

Australia – Iran 1-3 (22-25, 25-18, 18-25, 25-27)

Japan – USA 0-3 (19-25, 19-25, 21-25)

Volleyball proclaimed most dangerous sport regarding risk of contagion with COVID-19

I believe the study was about indoor 6's volleyball. Many folks here is the US play outdoor (and some of us play without clothes) 4 on 4 and don't high five each other. We also rotate about 5-6 balls that sit in the sun in between usage. Reply

FIVB releases new men’s and women’s world rankings

Serbia's ability to be in the metals in all big competitions, the last three years, is the result of the good handling of the rest exactly after the end of the European Championships. The first matches of Serbia in vnl the last years have the same philosophy. I insist. I would prefer o metal in big tournaments from metal in every year vnl. Thw players haven't enough time for rest. FIVB releases new men’s and women’s world rankings

has serbia ever had a 3rd team?:D
serbia began all vnl and former grand prix tournaments with a-teams. they have 3 recent g. prix bronzes. In 2018 vnl, again they began with boskovic, mikailovic, veljkovic, popovic, rasic etc. went to finals in china but lost against turkey and usa and went home.In 2019 vnl again they began with top guns boskovic, mikailovic, veljkovic etc. in 1st week. actually their rivals, the turks again, came with their 2nd team ie. without veterans but with youngsters ozbay, karakurt, gunes, baladin etc. and swept serbs by 3-0 and this match had to disappoint terzic too much and he continued vnl with bench players and lost almost all remaining games. videos are everywhere in youtube, just watch them.

for better rankings, you need to compete in all tournaments, but unfortunately only great countries like china, usa with great human resources, great capacities can afford it.

or despite winning 'big' tournaments, you must be contented with your 6th position, because only the points you won do matter. Reply
