The super-strong men’s volleyball tournament will be held in Russia at the end of August.

Very strong tournament with the participation of all medalists of the last men’s Superliga and the Russia National Team will be held in Kazan.

The city in the Tatarstan region, famous in the volleyball world as the home of the multiple CEV Champions League and FIVB Club World Championship winners Zenit, will host the “Cup of the 75th Anniversary of Victory” (dedicated to the anniversary of the defeat of the German fascist invaders in the Great Patriotic War) from August 24 to 26. The Russia National Team, as well as all medalists of the 2019/20 Superliga Parimatch - Lokomotiv, Zenit-Kazan, and Kuzbass, respectively - will take part in this charity tournament.

Unfortunately, due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation, the matches will be held without spectators. The proceeds from sponsorship payments and donations will be given to the charitable foundation that provides high-tech medical care to veterans of all battles in which Russia took part.

Tuomas Sammelvuo, the head coach of the “Zbornaya”, summoned 16 players to the tournament (schedule):

Setters: Butko Aleksandr (Zenit-Kazan), Kobzar Igor (Kuzbass); Opposite hitters: Mikhaylov Maksim (Zenit-Kazan), Poletaev Viktor (Zenit St. Petersburg); Middle blpockers: Volvich Artem (Zenit-Kazan), Kononov Aleksey (Zenit-Kazan), Kurkaev Ilyas (Lokomotiv), Filippov Igor (Zenit St. Petersburg), Yakovlev Ivan (Zenit St. Petersburg); Outside hitters: Bogdan Denis (Fakel), Volkov Dmitriy (Fakel), Kliuka Egor (Zenit St. Petersburg), Savin Sergey (Lokomotiv), Surmachevskiy Andrey (Zenit-Kazan); Liberos: Golubev Valentin (Zenit-Kazan), Melkozerov Sergey (Zenit St. Petersburg)

Recall that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, training camps of both men’s and women’s national teams of Russia were canceled

FIVB releases COVID-19 guidelines for restart of volleyball activities

At last the guidelines on Covid-19, from a top governing volleyball body.... I appreciate them. It is a progress. Some of recommendations are general, some specific for volleybal. It seems to be the soft legal instrument. Nevertheless they could assist to national VFs… Majority of recommendations are reasonable, some of them should not be a problem to kept, some will need a much bigger effort to be kept, some should be included yet. For this goal, there should be obtained a support (best voluntary) and discipline from athletes, coaches, officials, referees , medical staff, club owners, fans etc - realised what is in a stake… Media will have an important role in that..
For implementing of these measures there should be probably prepared also some Roadmap.. Perhaps it would be a suitable to consider the responsibility for pertinent officials, positions, and how to enforce crucial measures, recommendations, specified for this sport - if the situation would be worsen ....
We can hope , that these epidemiological preventive measures will be only temporary and volleyball will return soon to halls, and fans could see their teams personally.
