The Argentina National Team rewrote a memorable page in the history of the country’s women’s volleyball and qualified for the Olympics for the 2nd time in a row.

In front of the 7,000 rival’s fans, Argentina recovered from losing an opening set against Colombia in the last round of the 2020 South American Women’s Olympic Qualification Tournament in Bogotá and progressed to the Tokyo event: 3-1 (16-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-23). Before the match, both sides were leveled at 2-1 and 6 points, so it was a decider for the Olympic visa.

The “Las Panteras” prevailed after an hour and 58 minutes of a play and were led by Elina Rodríguez (20 points). Amanda Coneo scored 14 points for Colombia, while Valerin Carabali made 5 kill blocks. Argentina took advantage of their 2nd chance to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games, as they have failed to do so in the International Qualifier last year. Argentina will join Brazil as the representatives of South America in the Tokyo event.

FIVB releases COVID-19 guidelines for restart of volleyball activities

At last the guidelines on Covid-19, from a top governing volleyball body.... I appreciate them. It is a progress. Some of recommendations are general, some specific for volleybal. It seems to be the soft legal instrument. Nevertheless they could assist to national VFs… Majority of recommendations are reasonable, some of them should not be a problem to kept, some will need a much bigger effort to be kept, some should be included yet. For this goal, there should be obtained a support (best voluntary) and discipline from athletes, coaches, officials, referees , medical staff, club owners, fans etc - realised what is in a stake… Media will have an important role in that..
For implementing of these measures there should be probably prepared also some Roadmap.. Perhaps it would be a suitable to consider the responsibility for pertinent officials, positions, and how to enforce crucial measures, recommendations, specified for this sport - if the situation would be worsen ....
We can hope , that these epidemiological preventive measures will be only temporary and volleyball will return soon to halls, and fans could see their teams personally.
