Men’s and women’s Turkish championships joined the group of high-level national club competitions whose formats and calendar for the 2020/21 season were released. The official list of clubs that will participate in both leagues has been announced as well – 16 apiece.
The Super Cup precedes the championships: in the men’s competition (Axa Sigorta Erkekler Şampiyonlar Kupası) Fenerbahçe HDI Sigorta and Arkas Spor are to face each other on September 8, while VakıfBank and Eczacıbaşı VitrA will lock horns in women’s competition (Axa Sigorta Kadınlar Şampiyonlar Kupası) next day.
As for the championships, the men’s regular season (2020/21 Axa Sigorta Efeler Ligi) will set off on September 13 and end on March 6 (round-robin formula). It will be followed by the playoffs in which the top four clubs will participate (March – April). The women’s regular season (2020/21 Sultanlar Ligi) will last from September 12 to February 28 (round-robin formula, too). The 1-4 playoffs are also scheduled for March – April.
