No.5 Zenit Sankt-Peterburg missed an enormous opportunity to throw namesakes from Kazan on their knees in Game 2 and tie the 2017/18 Superliga gold medal series at 1-1. The Russian league newcomers dropped a 2-0 against the top-seed, which may easily cost them a title in the final summation, partially 19-25, 15-25, 25-18, 25-22, 15-9.

How much Zenit Kazan players looked powerless on the court in the first two sets shows a decision of their coach Vladimir Alekno to replace nearly an entire lineup at 10-20 in the second set.

The Cuban Wilfredo León topped the winning side with 19 points. Evgeniy Sivozhelez scored 15 points for Zenit Sankt-Peterburg, while Aleksandr Volkov added 4 kill blocks.

Game 3 of the best-of-five playoff finals, in which Zenit Sankt-Peterburg will be the home side for the first time in the series, will be played on April 28.
