Two amazing winners of the Queen & King of the Court event in Tenerife on Sunday at the Beachboard Hacienda. Saofé Duval and Romane Sobezalz, just 19 and 18 years old, stunned everyone and snatched the crown away from some pretty high-level teams. The local heroes of Adrian Gavira and Alejandro Huerta made Spanish hearts beat much faster in a last-minute victory over the Dutch Alexander Brouwer and Stefan Boermans. It was as if written by Hitchcock himself.

Queens from France

In front of a sold-out crowd at the Beachboard Hacienda, the world’s leading beach volleyball facility, the French teenagers Duval and Sobezalz kept their cool. They had just one plan before the final: go out there and have some fun. And fun they had, because they were the ones with the crowns and robes when all dust had settled. They scored 12 in the final round, beating European champions of the format Anastasija Samoilova and Tina Graudina from Latvia and Corinne Quiggle and Chloe Loreen from the USA, both scoring 10.

Duval and Sobezalz are both defenders, they are training together now because their blocker partners aren’t available. It’s a fairytale ending for them, winning the crown.

Kings from Spain
A thriller of a final in the men’s tournament. Alexander Brouwer and Stefan Boermans were up ten points to both Gavira/Huerta and Seain Cook/Andy Benesh with 8 minutes to go. At the five-minute interval the Spanish duo was up to seven but still trailing. With just over two minutes Boermans hit just wide of the line and was unable to convert their first match point. Now the Spanish are with their backs against the wall, they need five more points.

Gavira and Huerta stayed cool as cucumbers. When they equaled at fourteen, they needed just one score. Huerta had ice in his veins and finished it off for the Spanish, both players claiming their second crown.
