For the fifth time in the club history, the first time after seven years, Bohai Bank Tianjin from China claimed the Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship title.
Tianjin found consolation for losing a home title to Beijing, two months ago, by winning the continental championship. Tianjin became the rulers of Asia in a superior way, by maintaining an unbeaten run in the tournament all the way and by losing only one set in the campaign – in the gold medal encounter to a two-time defending champions Generali Supreme Chonburi-E Tech from Thailand: 3-1 (25-18, 35-33, 16-25, 25-19).
The final match, just like the entire tournament was marked by a 19-year-old Tianjin outside hitter Li Yingying. In a decisive game for the trophy, she poured in 40 points (4 aces)! At the end of the match against Supreme, she was named MVP of the Asian Club Championship. Pleumjit Thinkaow scored 23 points (4 kill blocks) for Supreme.
Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical Springs from Japan won the bronze medal by beating the Kazakh side Altay 3-1 (28-30, 25-21, 25-19, 25-13).
