Saipa continued their remarkable series of historic results in 2021. After winning the first-ever title in Iran at the beginning of the year, the club from Tehran became the first team from its country to make it to the semi-finals of the Asian Women’s Club Championship in 22 years of holding this event. Saipa stunned Kazakh vice-champions Zhetysu in the quarter-finals: 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-23), while their outside hitter Mona Ashofteh top-scored the match with 17 points. In the semis, Iranian ladies will face another team from Kazakhstan, Altay, who secured an automatic berth for there.

The remaining two quarter-final face-offs featured Thai and Philippine clubs and those from Thailand prevailed confidently in both.
