Ricardinho, the Olympic champion in Athens 2004, defended the colors of the country’s top division team Denk Academy Maringá Vôlei in the match against Ponta Grossa Caramuru Vôlei valid for the state championship of Paraná. Ricardinho joined as the team’s backup setter to replace his nephew Lucas Bermudez, who is sidelined due to health problems.
The 43-year-old is away from the court since July 2018, when he announced his retirement and took over the presidency of Maringá. Ricardinho will continue to help the team until his nephew, who came from the SESI-SP youth team, gets well.
Besides winning the gold medal in the 2004 Olympic Games (Best Setter), Ricardinho won the FIVB World Championship two times and FIVB World League six times (MVP one time).
