USA coach Karch Kiraly:

“Today, Brazil played very good volleyball. They beat us in every phase of the game. They’re a very strong team. It’s a good learning experience for USA to face such strong play and hopefully it will make us stronger tomorrow. It’s a real challenge to play five strong teams in five days and the challenge is for us to bounce back after facing adversity like we did today.”

About challenge system:

“ I think it’s a work in progress but you have to start somewhere and you have to learn and get better. We, the coaches, are learning about it, but we really like the idea of getting good calls and giving referees some help because it’s a fast game and it’s sometimes hard to see where the ball lands. In the long run, it’s good for the game.” said Karch Kiraly.

USA captain Kristin Hildebrand:

“First, congratulations to Brazil. They played a very good game of volleyball. Their block and defence was almost perfect. It was very difficult to find our rhythm tonight. But we’ll be ready tomorrow and come back prepared for the rest of the tournament. We didn’t show what we could do tonight.”

Brazil coach Jose Roberto Guimaraes:

“I think we played really good volleyball today. Of course, I’m happy about the game. I agree with (USA coach) Karch (Kiraly) that it’s a difficult tournament, playing five top matches in five days. It’s important to learn in each match and I hope we play well against Japan tomorrow; it’s always difficult against Japan with their style.”

Brazil captain Fabiana Claudino:

“Today, we had strong team combinations and good tactics, and that was our aim today. Our serve and blocking was especially effective today and that’s why we won..”
