No.3 Sesi took advantage of the home court to defeat No.6 Corinthians in straight sets in Game 1 of 2017/18 Superliga quarterfinals, but only with a two-point difference in each one.
The game had its nervous side as well. At 25-24 for Sesi in the opening set, the second referee made visiting players furious by calling a block out of Sidnei Santos „Sidão“. Despite many complaints of Corinthians players, the call remained. And since protests did not calm down, the first referee gave a red card to one of the visiting players and awarded another point to Sesi so, the hosts started the second set with a 1-0.
Alan Souza topped Sesi with 22 points, while libero Murilo Endres made 85% reception (13 digs, 31% excellent). In Corinthians, Rodrigo Nascimento „Rivaldo“ scored 17 points. Rogério Nogueira „Mineiro“ recorded 76% reception (21 digs, 3 errors, 38% excellent).
No.4 EMS Taubaté Funvic victoriously opened their quarterfinal series. They outplayed No.5 Minas Tênis Clube by a 3-0 thanks to 14 points from Wallace Souza and 5 kill blocks from Argentinean Sebastián Solé. Henrique Honorato scored 12 points for Minas.
Both Sesi and Taubaté need one more win to reach the semis, just like Sada Cruzeiro and Sesc-RJ.
