At the end of the Preliminaries, that lasted for a whole week, national teams did their best to claim the best possible positions in their respective pools ahead of the first round of the elimination stage – the eighth-finals, that will also be held in the same four cities that hosted the Preliminary Round.
The European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) set the rule prior to the EuroVolley that host nations will not face each other in the eighth-finals even in case their placements in pools pair them up.
