As hosts in both matches – yesterday and today – of the 1/16 finals of the 2021 Women’s Challenge Cup, Turkey’s THY Istanbul scored a double straight-set victory over Croatia’s OK Kaštela and progressed to the next round.
Polen Ünver (former Uslupehlivan) was the most prolific player of THY with 18 points. Büşra Şahin set up as many as 7 blocks, while Şeyma Ercan made 83 % reception (33 % excellent).
Dutch Sliedrecht Sport were so close to overturning the outcome of the first match against Spain’s CV Gran Canaria. As hosts in both matches, Gran Canaria swept rivals yesterday but today, they were on verge of the abyss as Sliedrecht had 2-0. However, the Spanish side avoided playing the golden set as they claimed the next three sets.
French Victoria Foucher led Gran Canaria in scoring with 22 points. Lucía Varela made 4 blocks, while Saray Manzano had 84 % reception (53 % excellent).
In the all-Austrian face-off, ASKÖ Steelvolleys Linz-Steg prevailed over UVC Holding Graz by a 3-2 before the rematch on November 25.
