To the surprise of Hungary, it suffered a 2-3 defeat against Switzerland in its second match of the CEV Women’s EuroVolley 2021 group stage. Switzerland, who fell short of the Pool C host Croatia in the opener and is perhaps the weakest member of the Zadar sextet on paper, won its first point in the tournament. On the other hand, the national team coached by the Pole Jakub Głuszak failed to materialize a highly important triumph over Slovakia in the first round. Switzerland was more focused on the tie-break, turning 1-3 into 8-3. Maja Storck top-scored the winning side with 22 points. As for Hungary, Gréta Szakmáry notched 27 points, including five blocks, while Zsófia Gyimes recorded one block more.

Serbia made the second victorious step towards the defense of the European throne. On the wings of great support at home in Belgrade, Zoran Terzić’s team flew to success against France in Pool A: 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-16). As expected, Serbia’s star Tijana Bošković was the most prominent figure of the encounter, scoring 20 points through 70 % attack (19/27, one error, blocked once).
