VakıfBank İstanbul overcame a true thriller in the rematch of the 2022 CEV Women’s Volleyball semi-final against Turkish compatriots from Fenerbahçe Opet İstanbul and advanced to the Super Finals after a Golden Set.
Turkey’s VakıfBank and Italy’s A. Carraro Imoco Conegliano (who went to the final straight from the quarter-finals) will face off in the CEV Champions League Volley | Women final match for the second year in a row. The encounter, Super Finals, will take place on May 22 in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Giovanni Guidetti’s team earned the chance to compete for the trophy after defeating Fenerbahçe 15-11 in a Golden Set of the semi-final rematch of an all-Turkish clash. VakıfBank won the home match 3-1 but lost 0-3 as visitors. The yellow-and-blacks displayed steely nerves in the Golden Set, emerging triumphant and securing their place in the decider. Fenerbahçe, who were on the verge of pulling off a miracle, suffered a heartbreaking defeat despite Melissa Vargas’ 26 points. Brazilian-Swedish duo Gabi and Haak tallied 18 points apiece on the winning side.
