Vasas Óbuda Budapest defeated Tenerife La Laguna again to find themselves on the major scene of the 2023 CEV Women’s Volleyball Champions League.
Hungary’s Vasas advanced to the group stage of the CEV Champions League Volley 2023 | Women after defeating Spain’s La Laguna for the second time in the 2nd Round of the Qualifiers. After the 2019-20 season – when they also progressed to the group stage through qualifications – the Hungarian champions will again appear among the 20 best teams in Europe. And these two are the only times Vasas managed to achieve so.
The team from Hungary’s capital, which eliminated Belgium’s VDK Gent Dames in the 1st Round, won 3-0 in Tenerife last Tuesday, so it was two sets away from going to the groups. Even though they had some problems overcoming the Spaniards in the first set, it can be said that Vasas’ advancement wasn’t questioned today in the home game, in which they were highlighted by Azerbaijani middle blocker Ayshan Abdulazimova, who scored 14 points. Vasas will be placed in Pool A along with Imoco from Italy, Developres from Poland, and Mulhouse from France.
Yesterday, Serbia’s Crvena Zvezda Beograd became the first team to successfully pass over qualifications.
