Bluenergy Daiko Volley Piacenza beat Fenerbahçe HDI İstanbul again with a score of 3-1 and went into the quarter-finals of the 2023 Men’s Volleyball CEV Cup.
Italy’s Piacenza beat Fenerbahçe in Turkey in the 1/8 finals with the same result as the first leg and entered the quarter-finals of the CEV Volleyball Cup 2023 | Men.
Lorenzo Bernardi’s team struggled for three sets to get the better of a combative opponent who offered a performance of great substance at home court, despite the absence due to injury of the starting setter, the ex-captain of the national team of Iran, Saeid Marouf. The SuperLega side, after losing the first set 25-22, won the second and third sets by 25-23 and 26-24 before dominating in the fourth in which both coaches made extensive use of the backup players.
Cuban-Brazilian Yoandy Leal was one of the rare players to stay on the court the whole match, finishing with 19 points. Edorado Caneschi made 4 blocks. Kaan Gürbüz scored 14 points in three sets. Piacenza will face Romania’s C.S. Arcada Galați, who knockoud out Finland’s Savo Volley Kuopio (3-1 and 3-1)
Round of 16 featured another big Italian-Turkish face-off: Valsa Group Modena eliminated Arkas İzmir and flew to the next round of the second most important European club competition.
Andrea Giani’s wards dominated rivals far and wide: after winning the first leg with a clear 3-0 away, the team from Emilia prevailed in the first two sets of the return match played in front of their own crowd at the PalaPanini and mathematically conquered the pass.
Tommaso Rinaldi stood out the most for the SuperLega powerhouse with 11 points, flanked by Giovanni Sanguinetti (4 aces). Modena’s opponents in the top 8 will be Germany’s SVG Lüneburg who got the better of the Dutch side Lycurgus Groningen (3-2 and 3-0).
