With a huge comeback at home against Montpellier, Italy’s Piacenza advanced to the CEV Volleyball Cup 2023 | Men semifinals. After the defeat in the first leg, 1-3, Massimo Botti’s team needed to win 3-0 or 3-1 and then also win the Golden Set; they “chose“ a 3-0 and Golden Set combo. The greatest protagonist in the ranks of Piacenza was Yuri Romanò, author of 21 points (six aces), while Cuban-Brazilian Yoandy Leal had four blocks. Théo Faure scored 18 points on the losing side.

Piacenza will play against Knack Roeselare, whose players proved better than Greenyard Maaseik’s, in the semifinals. Roeselare prevailed 3-1 in the first leg of the Belgian derby, but Maaseik struck back with a straight-set triumph in the rematch, so Golden Set had to define the team that’ll go to the top 4. In it, Roeselare earned 17-15.

It was all easy for Italy’s Valsa Group Modena in the second leg against ACH Volley Ljubljana from Slovenia. Andrea Giani’s team dominated the necessary two sets (the first and second sets) and then took the third, finishing 3-0 at home in their PalaPanini just as they did on the road.
