After a riveting national team volleyball season the spotlight now turns to the CEV Champions League Women 2024. The eagerly awaited qualifiers began today, setting the stage for Europe’s premier club competition.
The pool phase is set to start in less than a month. Today, Round 1 of the Women’s Qualifiers saw action in Czechia. In a Pool 2 clash in Brno, CS Volley Alba Blaj overcame CV Gran Canaria, clinching a victory in straight sets (25-23, 25-16, 25-18). Isisdora Kockarevic stood out, scoring 19 points, while Anneclaire ter Brugge contributed 15 for the victors. Tomorrow, CV Gran Canaria is slated to face Kralovo Pole Brno.
Pool 1 will start its competition on October 12, 2023, in Zagreb, Croatia, featuring a match between OK Gacko and Asterix Avo Beveren, and in the second match of the day, HAOK Mladost Zagreb will face OK Herceg Novi.
This year witnesses a change in the playing system for the qualifiers. Teams will now compete in two tournaments in Round 1. The top two teams from each tournament will progress to Round 2, vying for just two slots in the pool phase.
Pool Composition Round 1 – CEV Champions League Volley Women:
- Pool 1: OK Gacko (BIH), Asterix Avo Beveren (BEL), Mladost Zagreb (CRO), OK Herceg Novi (MNE).
- Pool 2: CS Volei Alba Blaj (ROU), CV Gran Canaria (ESP), Kralovo Pole Brno (CZE). Hapoel Kfar Saba (ISR) was set to participate but has opted out. As a result, all its matches will be recorded as 0-3 losses.
