They were nowhere to be found in the last two years in the major tournaments, but then, the Russian National Team emerged in EuroVolley 2017 to dominate like only a few teams have in the history of the Continental Championship.
By beating Belgium in the semi-finals of the tournament, in Kraków, 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-17) the „Zbornaya“ went to the finals and kept the unbeaten record in games 5-0 and in sets 15-0!
Thanks to the monstrous attack (56% of excellent attacks) and powerful serving (9 aces), Russia gave no chance to the „Red Dragons“, who already made a huge success, the unseen so far in their Men’s volleyball, by advancing to the semi-finals.
Dmitriy Volkov notched 18 points for Russia, who advanced to their fifth European Championship finals upon the country’s independence in 1992 (two gold medals won). Tomas Rousseaux scored 10 points for Belgium. The main attacking power of the Belgian NT before this match, Sam Deroo, was unrecognizable tonight, making only 5 points.

This Russia is probably the strongest one since 2013. Their blocking height and power in serve and spike is unmatched with any other team in this ECH. Belgium was simply no match, they couldn’t show their true strenght due to the overpowering Russians. They’ll most likely become European Champions tomorrow.
