The 2017 FIVB World League – Group 2 winners Slovenia suffered the second defeat in as many games in Pool B in the 2018 Golden European League. After losing to The Netherlands in Round 1 by a 3-1, Slovenia were surpassed by the defending champions Ukraine, who prevailed in straight sets, partially 25-23, 25-23, 25-18, in Round 2.
Oleh Plotnytskyi top scored the winning side with 19 points (3 aces, 2 kill blocks). Vasyl Tupchii recorded 73% attack (11/15, 1 error, blocked once). Tonček Štern scored 17 points for Slovenia, while Jan Kozamernik added 4 kill blocks.
In the same pool, Turkey beat The Netherlands in the tie-break, partially 25-23, 21-25, 25-20, 20-25, 15-12. Metin Toy made 21 points for Turkey. Vahit Emre Savaş had 82% attack (9/11). Maarten van Garderen topped the Dutch team with 21 points (3 aces, 3 kill blocks).
Turkey is the only side with a perfect record in Pool B.
Slovakia scored their first win in Pool A. They defeated Sweden at home by a 3-1 (25-23, 25-18, 19-25, 25-16), leaving the team from Scandinavia winless. Tomáš Kriško was the best scorer for Slovakia with 15 points. Emanuel Kohút contributed with 4 kill blocks. Fredrik Gustavsson notched 25 points for Sweden.
