POR M: Benfica to play their 9th playoff finals in a row, Sporting fighting for title after 23 years

Sporting CP and SL Benfica will play the playoff finals of the 2017/18 Portuguese men’s volleyball championship Campeonato Nacional I Divisão, both losing only a set in their respective semifinal series.

Sporting CP will play the finals of the national championship after 23 years! The top-seed side won Game 3 against No.4 Castêlo da Maia GC by a 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-16) and closed the best-of-five semifinal series with the same result (3-0).

In the finals, Sporting will face SL Benfica. The defending champions and also No.2 made a sweep in the series as well, beating third-seed SC Espinho in Game 3 by a 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-22). The series against Sporting will be Benfica’s ninth consecutive appearance in the playoff finals.
