No.2 Montana prevailed against No.3 CSKA by a 3-2 (27-25, 21-25, 25-15, 22-25, 15-13) in the opening game of the Super Liga 2017-2018 playoff semifinals and now need two more wins to advance to the finals.
But, this match could have been easily interrupted in the tie-break. As Bulgarian media reported, CSKA coach Aleksandar Popov was about to pull his team off the court as he was enraged with the referees and officials seated at the scorer’s table. This was caused due to the signaling from the scorer’s table that CSKA players committed an out of alignment fault. At the moment, the result was 11-9 for Montana. After a 10-minute interruption, Popov decided to leave the court out of protest and the game resumed.
The Russian Kirill Klets topped Montana with 30 points (3 aces, 2 kill blocks). Ventsislav Georgiev scored 24 points for the losing side. Hristo Tsvetanov added 6 kill blocks.
No.1 Neftochimic 2010 Burgas and No.4 Pirin Razlog will play Game 1 of their semifinal series tomorrow, on March 23.
