The USA have been hosting Japan this past week in Anaheim as part of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games Two-Years-Out Celebration. Both teams are also using the joint training block in preparation for the 2018 FIVB World Championship that begins on September 29 in Japan.
This time coach Karch Kiraly played with the young team:
“The value of this match is knowing we have a lot to learn from any opponent across the net. Japan is not the tallest team, not the highest jumpers, but they are one of the smartest teams. Nobody plays harder than Japan does, nobody plays smarter than Japan does. They really control the ball well. We didn’t play with enough discipline to beat a very disciplined team. So those are very good lessons for us and all of our players in our program.” said the USA’s coach.
Top scorers of the match: Karsta Lowe 18, Madison Kingdon 16, Rachael Adams 8; Miyu Nagaoka 16, Ai Kurogo 12, Sarina Koga 11. FULL MATCH STAT.
