VNL 2019 W: Italy sweep Japan, China claim their 6th consecutive victory

Italy’s head coach Davide Mazzanti once again made some changes in the line-up but, regardless of that, his team managed to beat Japan in straight sets (25-21, 25-16, 25-22) on Day 2 of the third week in the 2019 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League.

Paola Egonu, Lucia Bosetti and Anna Danesi returned to Italy’s lineup as they scored the seventh victory out of eight games in the 2019 VNL (third in a row), coming very close to qualifying for the Final Six in Nanjing, China. Egonu top-scored for Italy against Japan in Pool 9 encounter in Hong Kong, with 20 points, while Danesi made 5 of the team’s 16 kill blocks. Yuki Ishii scored 12 for Japan, who are at 4-4.

China

China claimed their sixth consecutive victory in the tournament (the fifth consecutive straight-set victory) to reach a 6-2 record. The current Olympic champions prevailed over the Netherlands (2-6 record) at home in Hong Kong, in Pool 9, with Zhu Ting scoring game-high 18 points. A 19-year-old outside hitter Annick Meijers noted 14 for the Dutch team.
