Sada Cruzeiro dominated Cucine Lube Civitanova in the final of the 2021 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship in Betim, Brazil.
On an inspired night, Brazil’s Cruzeiro – the official hosts – beat the titleholders Lube 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-23) in the final match of the 2021 FIVB Men’s Club World Championship in Betim, which was the replay of the decider in 2019. The team commanded by Filipe Ferraz gave no chance to the Italian giants in front of 5,000 fans at the Ginásio Poliesportivo Divino Braga (capacity 6,000 seats) and took the fourth title in the competition. Thus, Cruzeiro got closer to Trentino, the Italian club that holds the record in the competition with five trophies and which clinched the bronze medal in this years’ edition after sweeping Brazil’s Funvic. Cruzeiro walked towards the world title in an impeccable way, winning all four games they played and losing only one set.
With four representatives, the Contagem-based side was the one with the most players in the ideal lineup. The Cruzeiro’s outside hitter from Cuba, Miguel Ángel López, was voted the best player of the tournament. He also top-scored his team in the final with 12 points. His compatriot Marlon Yant and Puerto Rican Gabriel García ‘Gabi’ were Lube’s best scorers in the match with 11 points apiece. It has to be stressed that the Civitanova club played the whole tournament without the help of Osmany Juantorena, while Ivan Zaytsev entered as a substitute in the last couple of matches, but spent only a few minutes in the play.
Ideal line-up:
Outside hitters: López (Cruzeiro) and Michieletto (Trentino)
Middle blockers: Otávio (Cruzeiro) and Simón (Lube)
Setter: Cachopa (Cruzeiro)
Opposite hitter: Wallace (Cruzeiro)
MVP: López (Cruzeiro)
