In the second round of Pool A in Katowice, Poland, the national team of Serbia defeated Puerto Rico 3-0, 26-24, 25-21, and 25-16 by sets, and secured a spot in the 1/8 finals, having a full set of 6 points at the moment. Igor Kolaković’s players were absolute favorites against the Caribbean side but had a bit too many ups and downs given the rating of their rival today. This especially refers to the opening part of the match, when Serbia dropped a 5-point lead and questioned the winning of the first set.

Aleksandar Atanasijević stood out on the winning side with 12 points – recording half of them from the service line! Klistan Lawrence scored 16 for Puerto Rico.

Iran managed to beat Egypt in Pool F in Ljubljana, Slovenia, tougher than expected. After prevailing over Argentina in the first round in a match that was referred to as the battle for supremacy in the pool since the draw was made, the Western Asian side was to face the easiest rivals on paper. But, in a tournament such as World Championship, no opponent should be underestimated. Egypt ripped one set off the favorites and was on a par with them in the fourth set that went into overtime.

Milad Ebadipour (18 points) and Aliasghar Mojarad (4 blocks) took care that Iran finish the match with all 3 points in the pocket. Mohamed Issa scored 16 points for the Africans. Abdelrahman Seoudy recorded 6 blocks.
