Simone Giannelli won the MVP honor at the 2022 FIVB Men’s Volleyball Club World Championship, entering the sport’s history.
The only player to receive the MVP honor at a World Championship on both the national team and club levels is Giannelli.
If the Italian setter’s 2022 season wasn’t already noteworthy, it undoubtedly became more so on Sunday in Betim, Brazil, when he led Sir Safety Susa Perugia to their first-ever FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship title, which came in the Italian club’s debut appearance, and earned the competition’s Most Valuable Player accolades. The 26-year-old Giannelli, who led his nation’s team to victory at the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship and was chosen as the tournament’s best player, was in a comparable situation just three months prior. He’s the only player to have won MVP honors in both competitions.
