The Volleyball Nations League (VNL) is gearing up for an exciting expansion and a series of format changes starting from 2025, promising an enhanced experience for fans, athletes, and stakeholders alike. Following the success of the VNL 2023, which featured record viewership and social media engagement, the competition will welcome 18 teams, up from its current roster. This expansion is in line with the feedback from stakeholders and aims at making the league more accessible globally.
The VNL, which debuted in 2018, has seen a consistent rise in popularity, with the 2023 edition witnessing a 48% increase in global audience. Notably, the 2024 edition will see no relegation, and new teams will join based on the 2024 Volleyball Challenger Cup outcome and world rankings. A streamlined competition schedule will reduce match days, offering fans more matches and players an additional rest week. The restructured competition will feature 18 teams divided into three groups, leading to a Final 8 direct elimination phase.
