VNL M: Slovenia Upsets Olympic Champions France in VNL 2024

Slovenia secured their second Volleyball Nations League 2024 victory by defeating reigning Olympic champions France in Antalya on Thursday. The four-set match ended 3-1 (25-18, 25-22, 23-25, 25-21), with Slovenia’s opposite Toncek Stern leading the charge.

Stern and French star Earvin Ngapeth, MVP of Tokyo 2020, both scored 18 points, sharing top scorer honors. Slovenia’s Klemen Cebulj and Rok Bracko also reached double digits with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Despite a grueling five-set match against the Netherlands just 24 hours earlier, Slovenia dominated the first set 25-18. They maintained control in the second set, winning 25-22. France rallied to take the third set 25-23, but Slovenia sealed their victory with a 25-21 win in the fourth.

In other VNL matches in Antalya, Canada lost to Poland 1-3, and Türkiye suffered a close defeat to the Netherlands 2-3.
