It was a day of revival at the 2025 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship, as Ukraine and Iran both secured must-win matches to stay alive in the playoff hunt.
In Quezon City, Ukraine swept aside Algeria in straight sets (25-17, 25-12, 25-11). From the opening rally, the Europeans dictated the pace with sharp serving and strong blocks. Dmytro Yanchuk starred with 18 points, supported by Vasyl Tupchii (12) and captain Yurii Semeniuk (11). Despite Sidi Mohamed Dour’s nine points, Algeria couldn’t break through and remain winless in Pool F.
Over in Pasay City, Iran recovered from a slow start to defeat Tunisia 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-16). Morteza Sharifi fired five aces and scored 18 points, while Poriya Khanzadeh delivered a match-best 21 points. Tunisia’s Oussama Ben Romdhane and Ali Bongui each scored 14 points, but Iran’s late surge proved too strong.
Both Ukraine and Iran now sit on 1-1 records, their playoff hopes are still alive.
