WL 2017: You won’t believe at what time the final match starts!

The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) set a rather strange start time for the final match of the 2017 Volleyball World League!

Although they set universal match schedule for both pool stage and semi-finals of the Final Six in Curitiba, Brazil (first game at 15:05 Local Time or 20:05 CET and 17:40 Local Time or 22:40 CET), the FIVB surprised everyone by establishing a completely new timetable for the last day of the tournament, July 8.

It seems it was not enough that players had to play outdoors at temperatures lower than 16 degrees (it was 10 degrees on the first day, but temperature never went higher than 14-15 degrees during the entire tournament), which was against the rules that FIVB set for the weather conditions (is this ironic or what?!) but now, they will have to play finals at the time when they are supposed to go to sleep – at 23:05 Local Time!

At this point we don’t know the real reasons for a sudden change of schedule for the last day of the Final Six – was it on a demand of TV channels or it was planned from the beginning. And not to mention that predicted temperature in Curitiba during the night at the time of the last two games of the tournament will be between 12-13 degrees.

Schedule for the last day of the F6 (July 8):

Match for the 3rd placeUSA vs. Canada (20:00 Local Time or 1:00 CET /July 9/)

Finals Brazil vs. France (23:05 Local Time or 4:05 CET /July 9/)

FIVB screwed up alot this year.

First the proposal of a new game system of a ‘best of seven’
Secondly the proposal of new rules on the crossing of the service-line and 3-meter-line in backcourt-attack.
Third: Proposals on new changes in the WL and WGP which clearly favor big countries with lots of money.
And finally, the entire organization of this WL final 6 where players have to play in a hall with a way to low temperature, no rest days and sudden schedule change in the final day with playing at a unresponsibly late hour.

Yet another FIVB decision that goes against common sense, bordering on disrespect towards the players and the fans (in this instance French and other European fans who won’t be able to watch the finals live) !

and the worst part is that they will get away with it since it seems no federation has the courage to tell them no 🙁

The schedule was not changed. The Local TV Channel GLOBO broadcasting the WL required the final starts at 11pm. This time was set even before it all started.
It is not FIVB, It is GLOBO.
