The French Women’s Volleyball side Marcq-en-Barœul made, probably, the biggest upset in the playoffs this season worldwide!

The No.8 seed Marcq-en-Barœul eliminated the top seed Mulhouse from the 2018/19 Ligue A Féminine playoffs. The returnees to the French Women’s Volleyball top division after 18 years won Game 2 of the quarterfinals by a 3-2 (25-23, 25-23, 20-25, 20-25, 15-9) and swept the series with the main title favorites! Laetitia Moma Bassoko, the Cameroonian outside hitter from Marcq-en-Barœul scored game-high 31 points, leading her team towards the semifinals. Carli Snyder, a professional volleyball rookie from the United States, who came to Mulhouse from the University of Florida Gators, scored 21 points. Léa Soldner made 81% positive reception (26 digs, 54% perfect).

Another Ligue A Féminine newcomers, the third seed Le Cannet (formerly known as Volero Zürich, the multiple Swiss titleholders), advanced to the semifinals as well. They won the series against the No.6 seed Venelles by a 2-0 with a four-set win in Game 2, partially 25-21, 25-20, 20-25, 25-14. A prospect Cuban outside hitter Heidy Casanova top-scored for Le Cannet with 14 points. Azerbaijani Olena Hasanova set up five kill blocks. The Brazilian duo Heloisa Pereira “Helô“ and Tamara Hoffmann noted 10 points apiece for Venelles for which Serbian Jasna Majstorović made 80% reception (10 digs, 40% perfect).

Cannes and Nantes tied their quarterfinal series at 1-1.
